The Ex-PATRIOT Act lies like a coiled snake on a table in the U.S. Senate. The longer title of this unenacted bill from 2012 is the Expatriation Prevention by Abolishing Tax-Related Incentives for Offshore Tenancy Act. Its self-description is, "A bill to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to provide that persons renouncing citizenship for a substantial tax avoidance purpose shall be subject to tax and withholding on capital gains, to provide that such persons shall not be admissible to the United States, and for other purposes."

[Editor's Note: The following is from our Mexican based TDV Education Correspondent, Jorge Gato]

I jump across the border between Mexico and the US a few times a year to visit family and stock up on a consumer good or two. (I'm not kidding when I say that I used to get mail delivered faster to my yurt in the Central Asian desert than I do to Mexico.)

A question I frequently get asked by Mexicans is "Why did you come to Mexico?" To which I reply: "I'm still trying to find the answer to that question."

Paramilitary police state? What paramilitary police state?

The reasons to prepare to leave the US just keep piling up!

Tina Turner is turning in her US passport along with her US citizenship and becoming a Swiss citizen. You have to wonder if she heard the whoop of the military helicopter blades all the way across the Atlantic.

You see, dear reader, there's been another combined military and domestic police operations practice run in the USSA.

Hello from beautiful Acapulco,

Last weekend I proudly stated that for the first time in memory I had not been sent to the back room at Canadian customs in Vancouver.  So much for that streak.

I actually did end up in a back room at the Vancouver airport, but it was as I attempted to egress through US customs a few days later with, unfortunately, a connecting flight through the western version of North Korea.

I was waved forward for my interview with a robot named "Gonzalez".  He spent about 10 minutes reading through all the things that have been written about me at prior interrogations and he then peered at me.

"You ever been arrested?" he prodded.

Well, it's Friday again. We all made it. The President had his re-coronation this week, and all for the low low price of $170 million of your hard-earned tax dollars. God bless the USSA! So happy you put in a 50-hour work week so that O'Bomber can have 42 inauguration balls—despite already having had an inauguration in 2009! And look at Michelle's fabulous bangs!

On to the feedback...

Don't Worry About Your Guns: There Is Nothing Left To Defend

[Editor’s Note: The following is by TDV legal correspondent, Jim Karger]

"And, to you tough-talking Neo-Cons with your AR-15 rifles and a few thousand rounds of ammo, here is reality: they will take your guns, and no, all your Second Amendment bluster aside, you are not going to do anything about it. You are not going to take on a platoon of Marines with state of the art automatic weapons and the best body armor you cannot buy protected by armed personnel carriers and attack helicopters unless you choose to die that day -- for nothing.

You will either be in the country or out, and if you are in, you will stay in and you will comply.
