Feedback Friday - June 1st, 2012

Welcome to another edition of Feedback Friday.  There wasn’t a lot of hate mail this week… perhaps the haters have now realized that morally incorrect or weak unprincipled positions will be outed live for the world to see and are more cautious in writing in.  Or, maybe we just didn’t write anything too incendiary this week.  The most feedback was in response to our article, "Barbed Wire is Beautiful" which filled up our inbox.  Here are just a few:

COJER LA POLICIA

IN RESPONSE TO: “Barbed Wire is Beautiful

Dear TDV,

Nice article. I have lived the past few years in Colombia and the broken glass bits on top of the concrete walls (fences) are pretty common here as well although i have never seen barbed wire per se, i have seen electric fencing on some of the concrete walls surrounding some of the higher priced homes ($500k+).

It is great not to have to worry about the cops beating the $hit out of you, tasing or just giving you a hard time with an extra dose of attitude. The cops down here act like everybody else and do not "power trip" like their North American counterparts. You can even cut them off in traffic and 99 out of 100 times, you will not get pulled over. Driving in two lanes? Not a problem. As a matter of fact, i can count on one hand the number of times i have seen cops giving tickets, although they did just install their first phase of cameras around town (foto multas).

TDV’s Response:

We should point out that Mexico is part of North America, although it doesn’t act like it, thankfully.  And, yes, it is very similar in Mexico as well.  If a cop is driving too slow for people's liking they will honk and cut in front of them before speeding off over the horizon.

EL SALVADOR VERSUS TORONTO

IN RESPONSE TO: “Barbed Wire is Beautiful

Dear TDV,

Wow, I couldn't have said it better!  I live north of Toronto, and recently spent some time down in El Salvador.  When I was there I saw a lot of homes surrounded by walls, barbed wire and broken glass.  I also saw A LOT of guns, and I really couldn't have felt safer.  At first I felt intimidated, then after awhile I realized that with so many guns, walls and barbed wire, who would even think of doing anything stupid.

Then I had a little laugh with my friends, imagining what my local town council and neighbors would think if I erected a 10 foot wall around my corner lot.  They would never let it happen, not to mention everyone would think I was a freak.  So you are right, the Government would attack me with force if I wanted to protect my family from potential intruders.  But drive a few kilometers north to the lakeside estates and you will find all of the homes gated.  They would be the freaks for not having a wall around their place.

TDV's Response:

The more people can protect themselves the safer a society is.  This was again shown this week in Seattle where a man came in and shot 5 patrons in a coffee shop.  One man was called a hero because he threw a stool at the gunman before he was shot and killed.  He would have been a much bigger hero if he shot and killed the gunman before he could continue on his spree.  However, self defense of this form is all but illegal in the US.  In the US, when you are the victim of a shooting spree you are told to call the government... and hope they show up in time.  There has never been a shooting massacre at a gun range.

ILLEGAL TO PROTECT YOURSELF IN THE US

IN RESPONSE TO: “Barbed Wire is Beautiful

Dear TDV,

Some areas of US now have laws against fortification. It was because they were having difficulty breaking down the doors of motorcycle clubs.

My home county borders Washington, DC and has zoning laws that do not allow barbed wire or guard dogs. A guard dog includes the family pet if it is known that it would bite a human even if only defending its owners.

TDV's Response:

The more government can take away your ability to protect yourself the more they can claim that you need them to protect you.  There is only one difference between the mafia and government: size.

IN RESPONSE TO: “Barbed Wire is Beautiful

Dear TDV,

Barbed wired? Broken glass? Reinforced doors?  You like to live in a prison amigo, for which you have the keys? Good for you!  I hope you have bullet proof glass in your windows, otherwise, snipers might get you! Better raise those walls high enough!

I don't know why would anyone like to live in a neighborhood were everyone distrusts it's neighbors...

TDV's Response:

Please send us your address and we'll let everyone know where they can go to see this place that has no forms of personal protection and in which you support theft to socialize any protective services you have.

That's all for this week!  Send any comments or questions to TDV@dollarvigilante.com.  Until next week, stay free!

If our nomenklatura really believes its own rhetoric, then have them remove the high fences around the White House. Not to mention the anti-aircraft weapons on the White House roof.

@ ClaymoreWrong again! What Jeff did is a form of social ostracism...and you need to learn the meaning of the word "aggression"...

@ShaneYou also should learn what "meaningless"... means! As in how meaningless was your comment...Don't take me wrong, where I live, there are plenty of houses and properties surrounded with barbed wire but I never in my entire life seen an electric fence.. not even in Portuguese Military Areas! But.. there is also the opposite, houses were there is no kind of fence or even walls... it's pretty common in Portugal. I guess people around noticed that it's better to go live somewhere else that to build walls and put guards at the gates, transforming the house into a prison... Also, if you visit Portuguese small villages, you will notice that everyone knows everyone there... If someone strange enters the area, local people will notice and will have an eye on you... We don't usually like to have strange people snooping around without announcing themselves.I always ask myself, what people fear so much, that they need to build such defences in order to feel safe... not to mention the waste of money that it takes, that could be use for something much more constructive...
